Distribution Projects To Meet Your Needs

Where possible we would prefer to provide total turnkey distribution projects from concept design to completion and client hand over certification. With
close liaison, appreciation of the customer’s core business and an understanding of duty and environmental parameters of the installation, we will ensure the system functions as intended.

Our highly qualified engineers will perform network fault calculation and protection studies whilst preparing circuit diagrams and schematics. On resolution of a scheme, we will decide on plant and cable location which ensures compliance with all relevant legislation and safety regulations.

The Right Equipment

We specify equipment according to performance and total life cost parameters assessed in consultation with our customers. A wide technical and operational
experience with all types of high voltage equipment, along with an in-depth knowledge of the latest materials, products and application techniques allows
us to select the most suitable solution to a power distribution problem. We also provide our clients with an essential part of any and all systems, a written ‘Safe Systems of Work’ procedure.

Affiliations, Membership & Certification

  • Quality Management System which has been certified by an independent body ‘Lloyds Register’ as conforming to BSENISO9002:1994.

Installation

Preparing civil foundations for installation of new switchgear or modifying existing plinths, we have the resources to provide the complete works to the highest possible standards. Our qualified engineers and technicians ensure minimal disruption to the client’s business activities, which is the result of detailed forward planning, continuous risk assessment, rigorous quality and safety procedures.

Ensuring the System Works

All high voltage systems must be tested during their operational life, during installation, final commissioning, routinely as part of a scheduled maintenance programme or after prolonged periods of disuse. These tests will ensure not only that the installation operates as designed, but that all modes of standby equipment and protection systems work when required.

Eaton Electrical Services & Systems offer clients a fully tested, fully certified system. Most importantly, all supporting calculations and supplementary data
schedules are issued, which in the event of catastrophic equipment failure and or damage to property, forms essential documentation that can be submitted to insurance companies on demand.

Routine Maintenance and Inspection

Routine maintenance of high voltage plant should be carried out not simply to ensure reliable and economical service, but to comply with the provisions of the Health and Safety Executive.

In addition, all maintenance and inspection is carried out as recommended by the equipment manufacturers and as required by BS 6626:1985 ‘Code of Practice for Maintenance of Electrical Switchgear and Control Gear’. Such works are implemented in compliance with the ‘Electricity at Work Regulation’1989.

Only trained competent ‘Authorised’ and ‘Senior Authorised’ personnel are utilised by Eaton Electrical Services & Systems. Our Engineers and Technicians are fully conversant with all varieties of electrical equipment, not to mention the differing handling, storing and disposal requirements.

We strictly follow ‘schedules of work’ and report on the condition of plant before and after remedial treatment with recommendations for future consideration. A comprehensive written report is issued to the client upon completion of work.

Value Added Maintenance Contracts

Eaton Electrical Services & Systems utilize the Electricity Association’s national report system, which publishes ‘Notification of Incident’ and ‘Notification regarding Suspension of Operational Practice’.

Flexible maintenance contracts of between two and five years, automatically ensure that the client receives all issues of ‘EA - Notifications’, relevant only to the installed equipment on his or her particular system. Where remedial action is agreed by the equipment manufacturer or other approved organisation, we will provide the client with the opportunity to sanction works immediately or during the next programmed maintenance visit. It will obviously remain the responsibility of Eaton Electrical Services & Systems to receive and ensure proper and corrective training practices before action of the remedial work.

Protecting the System

When switches or relays malfunction under fault conditions the consequences can be severe, ranging from damage to equipment and probable plant shut
down, to safety risks for personnel. Regular testing of protective devices is therefore of great importance to the integrity of a system.

Our protection grading service ensures discrimination throughout a system preventing damage and loss of supply should a fault occur during normal operation.

Thermographic Inspections

Thermographic inspections should be a regular part of a predictive maintenance programme. An indication of impending faults in mechanical and electrical systems and components is an increased temperature due to increased resistance and friction.

This temperature increase can be detected and quantified using the latest thermal cameras. Our state of the art thermal infrared cameras operate in a similar way to a standard video camera and an image of the temperature distribution of the component can be obtained. Should any part of the component be significantly warmer than other similar parts, a recording of the suspect component is taken. The magnitude of temperature rise will be illustrated and the seriousness of the fault can be determined.

Fault Location

Eaton Electrical Services & Systems offer a solution to the perennial problem of fault location in a power cable. Our fleet of vehicles all carry the latest technology in fault finding equipment to which we can apply four methods of location, Pulse Reflection, Impulse Current, Pulse Echo and Murry/Wheatstone Resistance Bridge. The traditional answer was to cut and test the cable in a number of places to identify the faulty section. Where once the least expensive option was often to replace an entire length of cable, we can now pinpoint the exact position of the fault and effect a rapid repair.

Airfield Lighting

The services we offer to airfield operators are the most comprehensive available. Our specialist engineers and technicians have vast experience in total airfield system operation and maintenance and complete airfield lighting installations. This unequalled expertise means we can handle any task from complete system design to light alignment and the supply of airfield ground lighting spares.

Clients Training Course – Authorised/Senior
Authorised Persons

A legal requirement of customers with their own distribution system under the provisions of the Electricity at Work Regulation 1989 is the appointment of trained competent staff. Our fully qualified instructors can tailor courses precisely to clients’ needs. Two typical courses include ‘High Voltage Awareness’ and ‘Authorisation for Work on High Voltage Networks’- Generating Plant Management and Workshop Practices. We strongly recommend that Authorised/Senior Authorised Persons Courses are held at the clients premises. This normally ensures that the network design, equipment type,
environment and duty is familiar.

Electro-Mechanical Services

Eaton Electrical Services & Systems has a department that specialises in the installation, overhaul and repair of generating plant and equipment, including electric motors, pumps, gearboxes, compressors and valves. Components are dismantled, tested and where necessary renewed with original manufacturers
approved parts, often extending equipment life at a fraction of the cost of plant replacement.
