The
Memshield 2 MPS system was introduced just over a year ago by
Eaton MEM Circuit Protection and Control. Modular construction makes
it easy to design anything from a simple panelboard with one
incoming module and one outgoing module, to a sophisticated switchboard.
It allows for a mix of fuse and circuit-breaker technology on
the incoming and outgoing sections; the incomer can now be an
ACB, FCS or MCCB while outgoing modules can house FCSs, MCCBs
or miniature circuit-breakers. A unique software program simplifies
the design process. Panels can be supplied as factory-built assemblies
or in modular form for assembly on site.
The
new air circuit-breakers are 3-pole or 4-pole drawout type units,
available in ratings up to 2000A with a fully rated neutral.
They include a 1600A unit which is compatible with standard 1
MVA supply transformers.
The
ACB has a fast-acting double-break contact action and a 65kA
service rated breaking capacity. There is a built-in trip unit
supervision circuit. It is one of the smallest ACBs available
worldwide and has low temperature dissipation, ensuring cool
running. It is easily maintained and offers ready access to the
auxiliary and control terminals. A double-insulated body means
that accessories can be field-fitted.
The
ACB modules are 600mm wide and 475mm deep and are available in
Forms of Separation up to Form 4 Type 2. They are designed for
top or bottom cable entry with front access for cabling and maintenance.
There is a facility to incorporate a supply authority CT compartment
and multi-function metering.
Busbars
within the ACB module, and throughout the MPS system, have a
fault withstand rating up to 50kA for 1 second.
The
unique Memshield 2 MPS Advantage software program has been upgraded
to include the ACB modules. This program takes the designer through
the selection procedure step-by-step to ensure that all the necessary
modules and accessories are selected. It provides a sketch of
the finished board, prepares a list of parts, and calculates
dimensions, weights and prices. The MPS Advantage program enables
potential switchboard layouts to be produced in a matter of minutes
by MEM sales engineers or their customers, using a standard portable
or desk-top PC.
The
flexibility of Memshield 2 MPS has made it popular with specifiers
and installers. The modular design brings the panelboard concept
into application areas which were previously only satisfied by
special panelboards or factory-built switchboards. The availability
of ACB incomers up to 2000A will enhance this flexibility still
further. |
