Exel 2 Gets A Makeover
Exel 2
gets a makeover
An updated version of the long-established Exel 2 brand of switch-disconnectors and switch-disconnector-fuses, is announced by Eaton MEM Circuit Protection and Control, the Birmingham-based electrical company that was acquired by Eaton Corporation earlier this year.

Exel 2 includes new features aimed at making installation easier, together with a more modern styling.

The Exel brand is so well-known in the electrical industry that electrical contractors often just ask for "Exel" at trade counters, without stipulating the product.

Features which have contributed to the success of Exel include:-

  • Robust sheet steel enclosures
  • Generous wiring space
  • Reliable quick make and break switching mechanism
  • A wide choice of ratings from 20A to 125A
  • Specification that exceeds BS EN 60947-3
  • Three year warranty when fitted with Eaton MEM fuses

Now Exel 2 retains all these features but projects a more modern image with a new lid label, and handle label, black gasketing and white porcelain components internally. The enclosure now boasts a new, hard wearing powdercoat paint finish.

Important new installer features include box clamp earthing terminals for easier, faster earth termination - there is no need to crimp cable lugs onto the cable. Endplates are no longer pre-drilled because it is frequently quicker and easier to drill entries on site to suit the precise location of the incoming cable or conduit. Clear rating information is printed on the front of the switch for easy identification when working in dark, inaccessible locations.

Exel 2 switch-disconnectors and switch-disconnector-fuses are available in 20A, 32A, 63A and 100A ratings in SPSN, DP and TPN configurations and 125A TPN. All have a short-circuit breaking capacity of 80kA.

Switches are quick-make quick-break types, suitable for AC or DC applications. They are fully rated for AC22A utilization category and TPN units have AC23A (frequent operation) ratings of 11A, 22A, 39A, 52A and 52A respectively. They are all type-tested for compliance with BS EN 60947-3.

Eaton MEM Circuit Protection and Control produces low voltage electrical installation equipment, from the main switchboard to the final distribution board, for commercial and industrial applications. It is one of the few companies offering a choice of both fuse and circuit-breaker technology. The range includes switchboards, panelboards, distribution boards and associated devices, loose switchgear, panel-mounted switchgear and motor controlgear. It also includes Mempower busbar trunking systems up to 6,300A for high-rise developments and industrial power distribution.

The company has in-house capability to offer a complete project management service and can call on the products and technical resources of other Eaton Electric companies, including MEM 250, Bill Switchgear, Cutler-Hammer, Holec and Elek, to cover both low and medium voltage products and project solutions.

Eaton Corporation is a global $7.2 billion diversified industrial manufacturer that is a leader in fluid power systems; electrical power quality, distribution and control; automotive engine air management and fuel economy; and intelligent drive train systems for fuel economy and safety in trucks.
