Memcap 31 is a self-healing capacitor - if a minor fault develops in the element, the metallization on the film will vaporise in the area of the breakdown, this will remove the fault and allow the rest of the element to continue operating.

Memcap 31 is also protected with an 'over pressure' safety device. Should an element fail at the end of its working life, then the breakdown of the winding activates a disconnect device within the element. This breaks both the connections to the element without affecting case insulation and ensures the safe isolation of that individual element. The rest of the capacitor continues functioning.

The Memcap 31 capacitor is dry, non-impregnated and environmentally friendly, conforming to IEC 831, BS 1650, IEC 70/70A.
