RCBOs, Combined MCB/RCD Units

The Memshield 2 RCBO combines the functions of an RCCB and an Miniature Circuit Breaker.

The unique, revolutionary design allows hundreds of RCBO possibilities within a module as little as 18mm wide. This allows a far greater number of devices to be fitted into a distribution board.

All the features of the standard MCB are maintained but with the added flexibility of residual current protection. Single pole RCBOs are suitable for use in any Memshield 2 distribution board.

Due to the unique method of construction any Memshield 2 SP or SPSN MCB can be fitted with residual current protection.

So for applications where a SP 63A type D MCB with 300mA time delayed residual current protection is required, Eaton MEM have the answer!

A version of the residual current pod is available for use on 110V and 110V centre tapped earth 50/60Hz systems.

Adding Earth Fault Protection to your MCB
There are three options, each complying with BS EN 61009:

1) Choose from the standard ready assembled range of RCBOs incorporating Type C MCBs.
2) RCBOs factory assembled to order; select your MCB followed by the earth fault sensitivity suffix from the relevant table. Remember any SP or SPSN MCB can be fitted with earth fault protection.
Example: MDL150R100 = 50A SP Type D MCB factory fitted with a 100mA residual current protection.

Field fittable Residual Current (RC) Units; an RCBO can be assembled on site. This provides two benefits: Previously installed Memshield 2 SP & SPSN MCBs can be upgraded to include residual current protection, also stock of SP & SPSN Memshield 2 MCBs previously supplied can be upgraded to include earth fault protection.
Example: A field fitted MR30 will convert any SP or SPSN MCB into an RCBO with a 30mA residual current sensitivity.

Please Note: SPSN RCBOs must NOT be fitted in TPN Type B distribution boards. SPSN RCBOs are limited for use in DP versions of distribution boards.

To guarantee discrimination with downstream residual current devices any upstream residual current device should be time delayed. The time delay period is between 150-400mS.

Any standard Memshield 2 SP or SPSN MCB can be factory assembled with residual current protection. To order your RCBO simply select the MCB you require and add the required sensitivity suffix shown in the table below, the RCBO will be supplied as a fully fitted unit.

Field Fittable Residual Current (RC) Units

A range of RCBO Pods for 110V power supplies, centre tapped to earth. They are intended for environments where users demand the highest standards of safety with equipment operating through 110V power supplies.

110V centre-tapped power supplies are provided via a transformer with an earth tapping in the centre of the secondary winding. This means that an earth fault will be at a maximum of 55V, which is only marginally higher than the 'safe' limit of 50V ac.

These pods can be field fitted to any of our STANDARD Memshield 2 double pole Type B or Type C MCBs. There is a choice of 30mA or 100mA residual current sensitivity. Factory assembled RCBOs can be supplied to special order at additional cost.

D.C. Components in the Load
The RCBO is capable of responding to the superimposition of components of current on the supply caused by the operation of equipment using rectified voltages in compliance with BS EN 61009.

Loss of Supply Neutral
Under loss of supply neutral conditions the r.c. element of the device will continue to provide earth leakage protection. With these conditions and upon detection of an earth leakage current the RCBO will operate within its normal characteristics.

High Voltage Suppression
High voltage suppression is incorporated and the unit is therefore ideal for use with supply equipment susceptible to such mains borne transients.
