Eaton MEM
Eaton’s position with regard to both WEEE and RoHS
as follows:

As a producer of electrical and electronic products, Eaton is fully committed to the compliance of all relevant European directives including the current RoHS regulations and up coming WEEE regulations where they apply to our products.

WEEE
Installation equipment when used in its original intention is outside the scope of WEEE because it is not included in one of the annex 1A & 1B categories and / or is classified as a component of a “permanently fixed or professionally installed installation”.

Assemblies such as Switchboards, Panelboards and Distribution boards are not within the scope of WEEE. The following products / components are further typical examples which are exempt as advised by Orgalime (The European Engineering Industries Association representing the interests of the mechanical, electrical, electronic and metalworking industries at the level of the EU in the legal, technical and economic fields. www.orgalime.org)

  • Fuses
  • Switchgear and Controlgear
  • Surge Protective Devices
  • Dimmers
  • Socket Outlets
  • Circuit Breakers and Residual current devices
  • Battery Chargers
  • Variable speed motor drives
  • PLC’s
  • Transformers
  • Frequency Converters
  • Power Supplies
  • Electric Motors
  • UPS
  • Protection relays and related products

We supply a range of low energy lamps that do fall within the scope of WEEE. These products are correctly marked and we are now in the process of registration and joining a recycling scheme that will be in place before the revised implementation date of the directive in the UK.

For further information please do not hesitate to contact Eaton or alternatively refer to the information guides issued by Orgalime and also the DTI.

RoHS
With reference to the previously mentioned low energy lamps these also need to be RoHS compliant. Although our luminaire products are outside the scope of WEEE they are specifically in the scope of RoHS and therefore need to be compliant. We have made all the necessary arrangements to ensure that these products are now compliant with the regulations (i.e The Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations 2006)

The remaining products within our product range do not fall within the scope of RoHS. Eaton, however, takes its environmental obligations seriously and we are actively working towards removing all hazardous substances where reasonably practicable, as outlined in the RoHS regulations, whether they eventually become implicated or not.

Should you wish to receive any further information please do not hesitate to contact the undersigned.

Yours faithfully
